About Us

Recycle for Greater Manchester

We are the organisation to encourage the people of Greater Manchester to recycle more and recycle better. We cover the districts of Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford. We work with the local Councils in each district to run recycling campaigns. We also operate 4 education centres.

Let's make Greater Manchester a shining example of urban recycling!

The community we live and work in needs to appreciate waste as a valuable resource. We have to recycle it. We all need to lead the way, to drive it forward and take the initiative. We're on a mission to inspire Greater Manchester's residents to make recycling second nature by helping them to see the value of waste.

About Recycle for Greater Manchester's Waste and Recycling Contract

Recycle for Greater Manchester is a partnership organisation between The Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority GMWDA and Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester) Limited.

The Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority signed a 25 year Private Finance Initiative recycling and waste management contract with Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester) Limited. This project provides a revolutionary integrated solution for the 1.1 million tonnes of municipal waste which the Authority handles each year.

Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester) Limited is a joint venture company owned by Viridor, a subsidiary of Pennon Group PLC, and John Laing PLC, which have come together to deliver a 25 year PFI Waste Management Contract.

Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester) Limited provides facilities and services to manage contract waste in an environmentally and economically sustainable manner. This involves the reception, treatment and disposal of waste to increase levels of recycling, composting and recovery and reduce waste sent to landfill.

A network of new and redeveloped waste management facilities are in operation across Greater Manchester.

The GMWDA provides waste disposal services for 1,009,815 households in Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford.
