Charity Shops

Donate unwanted items to charity shops or community schemes and help people in need.

There are many unwanted items that we can donate to local charity shops across Greater Manchester. Our clothes, furniture, books, CDs and DVDs are just some of the items accepted by charity shops. You can also take advantage of charities who collect clothes and textiles door-to-door. They usually post a plastic sack through your letterbox and provide you with a collection date.

...and stay in fashion!

Donating unwanted clothes to charity is a positive step in reducing the amount of unwanted items going to landfill but so is purchasing secondhand clothes.  Style never goes out of fashion and you can save money too! Visit the Big Wardrobe, a site dedicated to the re-sale of unwanted designer clothing. Did you know that to make a tonne of clothing uses more energy than to make a tonne of steel! Find out more on how you can cut your fashion carbon footprint, and help the environment.

It is also becoming popular for people to hold swishing events. Swishing is best described as  a clothes swapping party where guests can bring along their unwanted glad rags and swap them for new ones.  Guests are typically asked to bring along one good quality, clean item of clothing, or an accessory, that someone else might want. It's a great way to save money, re-use unwanted items and have fun. You can hold your own party or look out for events on offer in your local area.
