Arkwright Street Re-use Project

Donate your unwanted furniture at Arkwright Street Household Waste Recycling Centre in Oldham.

Arkwright Street Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) now accepts donations of unwanted furniture for re-use. This is a 6 month pilot delivered in partnership with Bulky Bob's to evaluate the effectiveness of such a scheme.

So if you are planning on buying new furniture or thinking of having a spring clean then why not donate your unwanted items. All donated furniture at Arkwright Street is collected by Bulky Bob's, a social enterprise in Oldham committed to supporting the community by offering employment opportunities for long-term unemployed people and providing good quality reusable furniture to families on low-incomes. By donating your furniture you will:
• help reduce the amount of items that go to landfill
• help others in your local community by providing them with second-hand goods

Donating second – hand goods promotes a sustainable lifestyle and there are many unwanted items accepted for donation including tables, chairs and sofas.

A new re-use container has been installed on the HWRC to help you donate your unwanted furniture and the site operatives will point you in the right direction for this good cause. The furniture will be collected on a regular basis by Bulky Bob’s who reuse the ‘pre-loved’ furniture, enabling families on low-incomes to access good quality affordable furniture.

What items can I donate?

For a full list of accepted items, download our leaflet. Please remember that only clean items in good condition will be accepted.

Visit our Arkwright Street HWRC page for information on the site’s facilities, opening times and location map.

How well are we doing?

Thank you for your continued support with this scheme:

Did you know?

All of our waste in Greater Manchester needs disposing of and the best way to deal with it is to reduce the amount we produce in the first place. Every tonne of re-used furniture diverted away from landfill saves 2.7 tonnes of CO2 being emitted, so it is important that we all do our bit. There are lots of simple actions we can all take to make a real difference including re-using items as many times as possible before thinking about recycling or disposal.

So why not visit our reduce and re-use pages on the website to see what else you could do?
