Waste Education Visits and Resources  

We offer high quality, fun and interactive visits for classes or groups within  the Greater Manchester contract area.

Our centres have  been awarded the 'Learning Outside the Classroom' Quality Badge. The Badge is awarded by the Council for ‘Learning Outside the Classroom’, the Quality Badge combines learning and safety criteria into one award for all organisations that provide learning outside the classroom experiences.

At our education centres you can take part in activities that help you:
 

• learn about waste and recycling

• consider how you can reduce waste

• understand and see at first hand the different technologies that we use to treat your waste.

The household waste across Greater Manchester is now processed and treated by Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester) Ltd under a new contract procured by Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority. As part of this contract, there is a dedicated team of waste education officers who facilitate visits at various sites across the region and who provide online resources to support waste awareness education. 

Two waste visitor centres already exist – one in Bolton at the Thermal Recovery Facility ( TRF) and one at Pilsworth in Bury at a Landfill and waste to energy site. In the future two new centres are planned.
