Refuse Derived Fuel / Combined Heat and Power

Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF)

Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) is a product of the Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) process which treats household waste to produce a specialist fuel product with a high calorific value. This RDF will be supplied by rail to the proposed Combined Heat and Power (CHP) facility.

Combined Heat and Power (CHP)

Instead of being diverted to landfill, residual waste that cannot be recycled, will be processed into a specialist fuel for use by a North West major chemicals producer, Ineos Chlor, to provide energy and heat for its plant at Runcorn, Cheshire. The fuel will run a new Energy from Waste Combined Heat and Power plant that will produce power and steam to replace energy currently generated from non-renewable sources.
