Household Waste Recycling Centre

Greater Manchester has a network of 21 Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs). New sites are proposed along with modernising current facilities. Residents will benefit directly through significant improvements to the HWRC network. 16 centres will be significantly improved or rebuilt. All HWRCs will have improvements with the benefit of better signage, traffic management, assistance for users and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).

HWRCs are facilities where householders can bring a wide range of materials to be recycled and disposed. HWRC Closures

Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority have agreed to rationalise their Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs). At its Annual General Meeting on the 17th June 2011 the decision to close 6 of their HWRCS has been approved as part of their budget cuts.

The rationalisation will take place in two phases; phase one being to close the following:

• Chandos Street, Shaw, Oldham
• Clifton Road, Prestwich, Bury
• Peel Lane, Heywood, Rochdale
• Union Road, Bolton

Phase two will involve developing a new super site at the former CMP Batteries site (Salford Road, Over Hulton Bolton BL5 1DD) and subsequently will involve closing Lester Road, Salford and Blackhorse Street, Blackrod, Bolton.

The date for the closures is yet to be finalised.
