The facility comprises of a Household Waste Recycling Centre, Transfer Loading Station and Green Waste Shredding Facility.

The existing Transfer Loading Station (TLS) has been demolished, and a modern TLS building is being constructed, which will receive both recyclable and non recyclable waste from local collections, ready to be sent  for reprocessing.

The Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) has been redeveloped within the existing site boundaries where it will operate as a split level facility. The facilities are being extended to allow better waste separation, recyclate recovery and traffic management. This will provide sufficient collection areas and enable waste to be efficiently separated on site, enabling a high recycling level of 60 per cent to be achieved. Traffic management will be improved so that queuing is reduced and the site is easier to use for the public. Operational and public vehicle movements will be kept separate in the best interests of safety and efficiency. 

An improved Green Waste Shredding (GWS) facility shreds green waste and prepares it inside a partially enclosed building for efficient transport to a composting facility, helping Greater Manchester divert more of its waste from landfill.

The utmost care has been taken to ensure that the construction and operation of these facilities can only have a positive impact on the local area.
