Construction work is on-going at the Sinderland Road to build a new Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC).

The existing Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) remains open during this time, opening times are detailed below.
 

The new HWRC will be located to a site immediately adjacent to the current centre – creating a purpose-built facility. The HWRC will be redesigned with a split-level layout – creating a modernised facility that will meet the recycling needs of the surrounding area by providing, a more convenient site layout, the opportunity to recycle a wider variety of household items, better traffic management to eliminate queuing off-site; and separate access for operational vehicles and private cars, to increase safety.

Improvements to the site will reduce waiting times and provide a more comprehensive recycling service for residents – helping to divert more of Greater Manchester’s waste away from landfill.

The utmost care has been taken to ensure that the construction and operation of the facilities can only have a positive impact on the local area.

The following measures have been taken to ensure the HWRC will not disturb local residents:

• The site will operate under strict working practices, with safeguards in place to prevent litter, odour and noise pollution.
• The facilities will be designed for minimum visual impact, with the colour schemes for buildings and fencing following those currently used around the site.
