Composting At Home

Compost Week was a great success thank you to everyone who got involved in the weeks activities and entered our prize draw.

The winner is Sadhna Russell from Ashton Under Lynne.

Composting is a cheap, easy and a natural process; it’s nature’s way of recycling.

Cheap

Composting is a no cost solution, to maintaining your garden. It's easy on your pocket, as home compost is an ideal replacement for expensive shop-bought compost.

Easy

Mother Nature does all the hard work for you...After approximately a year  you will have a nutrient rich fertiliser which is good for your garden and your plant pots. It will improve your soil structure, maintain the soil moisture and PH balance and will even help suppress plant disease. Your flowers will thank you for it.

Natural

Composting your organic waste greatly reduces your environmental impact. Many shop-bought compost is peat-based, the extraction of which has a negative impact on the environment, so making your own compost at home helps avoid this. What’s more, when waste is composted at home, oxygen helps the waste to decompose ‘aerobically’, a process which produces hardly any methane. This is good news for the planet!

Want to get started, follow our easy to follow steps right here or download our leaflet in Useful Information to help you start home composting today.

Did you know?

Composting at home for just one year can save global warming gases equivalent to all the CO2 your kettle produces in a year, or your washing machine produces in three months.
