Furniture Success at Lumns Lane Household Waste Recycling CentreResidents in Salford have donated an impressive 93 items weighing 1.56 tonnes in the first three weeks of the reuse pilot scheme at Lumns Lane Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Salford. The HWRC has been accepting donations of good quality unwanted furniture for re-use since the first week in March. This six month pilot project is being delivered in partnership with Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester) Limited (VLGM), Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA) and CT New to You.
Donating second – hand goods promotes a sustainable lifestyle and there are many unwanted items accepted for donation including tables, chairs and sofas. Please remember that only clean items in good condition will be accepted. Peter Heginbotham, Chairman at VLGM said: Councillor Neil Swannick, Chair of GMWDA said: “This is a great start. This scheme is an example of our commitment to increase the rates of re-use, diverting waste from landfill and benefiting the community.” Councillor Murphy, GMWDA Member for Salford said: “I am thrilled that this project has got off to such a promising start, providing the local community in Salford with access to affordable goods in quality condition.” There are lots of simple actions we can all take to make a real difference including re-using items as many times as possible before thinking about recycling or disposal.
