Speedy Progress is made on a New Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) to serve residents of Irlam, Eccles and Cadishead Districts in Salford. The Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA) and their waste and recycling contractor Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester) Ltd (VLGM) are making speedy and positive progress on developing a new Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Salford oThe piece of land known as Boysnpoe Wharf, previously disused scrub land, is being transformed into a new Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) by (VLGM). The new HWRC will allow residents to recycle household waste including bulky items in a modern easy to use facility which is more conveniently located than existing facilities - local residents currently travel 7 miles to their nearest facility. Construction works started back in September; the works included early completion of traffic signals on the roundabout adjacent to the site that joins the A57 and the B5320. These signals together with the specific site features to allow for ample off-road queuing that can be used in busy periods when the facility experiences high numbers of users, will ensure a positive improvement to the traffic flow on the A57. Users of the HWRC, which is due to be completed by late summer 2010, will experience a modern and convenient facility with easy access to the recycling containers. The split-level facility provides a convenient layout with separate access for operational vehicles and private cars to increase the safety of all site users. Peter Heginbotham, Chairman of VLGM, the company responsible for the development, said “This new facility with its modern and forward thinking layout will make it easier for residents to segregate and recycle more of their waste in a simple to use and safe environment.” Councillor Neil Swannick Chair of GMWDA said “This new HWRC forms part of a network of facilities across the Greater Manchester region and will reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill and allows residents to recycle more in a convenient and easy to use facility. The HWRC at Boysnope Wharf has specifically been designed to allow for at least 60% recycling of all the household waste taken into the site.”
