Stalybridge Recyclers Impressed by New Bayley Street Facilities

Householders using the recycling facility at Bayley Street, Stalybridge have benefited from a major new facility and improved service over the last month.

As a part of the improvements in recycling and waste management facilities in Greater Manchester the improved Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) opened its doors in November. The HWRC has been relocated and extended whilst remaining within the boundary of the previous site.

The modernised facility has improved traffic management; reduced waiting times and displays new signage, making recycling easier for householders.

The redevelopment work forms part of the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority’s long-term recycling and waste management contract to provide world class waste facilities across Greater Manchester.

Since the facility opened Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester) Ltd (VLGM), the company responsible for the development, has been capturing users’ views and opinions about the site and the company is impressed with the positive comments received.

The local residents throughout the Tameside district are very pleased. Andrew France said, “It is very well organised and is a vast improvement. There are also lots of choices for recycling so it’s much better”

Martin and Siobhan Richardson, from Mossley, agreed. “The layout and signage of the site is very good. It is easy to use and the staff are helpful.”

Peter Heginbotham, Chairman of VLGM said, “This new facility with its modern and forward thinking layout will make it easier for residents to segregate and recycle more of their waste in a simple to use and safe environment. Hopefully it will ensure that people come back and continue to recycle in the future to help us achieve our recycling and composting targets of 50% of all household waste by 2015.”

Councillor Neil Swannick Chair of GMWDA said; “We are very pleased of this new facility and extremely pleased that residents are benefiting from the new and improved site and service”.

Councillor Cath Piddington from GMWDA and Tameside Council, said; “This new and upgraded facility is a community provision and will allow Tameside residents to further increase their local recycling performance. The HWRC at Bayley Street has specifically been designed to meet our new enthusiasm for recycling by allowing for at least 60% recycling of all the household waste taken into the site.”

The reconstruction of Bayley Street forms part of the refurbishment of all 25 HWRCs, bringing a vastly improved service to the residents of Greater Manchester.
